Out of this world, 1st Wellington awarded two trophies at the town’s carnival.
Not just one but two trophies have been awarded to 1st Wellington Scouts at this year’s Wellington Carnival. Our space age intergalactic tourism float set in 3009 saw Beavers and Cubs dressed as aliens sat on board Ken Cole’s trailer whilst Scouts and Explorers danced along side collecting money. Scout Sam Shepherd even went as far as to cover himself in green face paints and brave the cold whilst walking with the procession. Carnival 2009
Carnival 2009 The event ran without a hitch this year and the town’s people were impressed with the Scout’s float donating generously as we passed through. Ken Cole donated the use of his tractor and trailer allowing us to turn it into a space-scape and personally driving the float while TNT disco lent us disco equipment for some space age tunes.
The Carnival is always a full on weekend with a team of leaders, adult helpers and scouting youngsters all lending a hand to build the float on Saturday with the procession in the evening. Steve Altria then attends the awards ceremony, held in Ken Cole’s yard, to represent the Scouts and Sunday is spent dismantling the wooden framework. After a late night, taking the float apart is often difficult to approach with enthusiasm but a few brave individuals, including Oliver Corby and Emily Cannell, made it out to help remove the space scenery and lighting systems from Mr Cole’s trailer. As such helpful young people it was thought appropriate to have them model our carnival awards next to one of the biggest tractors we have ever seen! Carnival 2009
